How to Save Money and Improve Fuel Economy Instantly

If you want to improve your fuel economy and save money, just slow down on when you’re cruising on the highway.  You can usually and easily improve your highway fuel economy by 5-10% by cruising at or slightly below the limit.  Most cars seem to do the best around 60 mph.  If your car has a mileage computer, try driving at different speeds until you can optimize the fuel economy vs. speed tradeoff based on your situation.  Don’t forget the other things you can do such as ensuring proper tire air pressure and reducing weight. 1. I own a Ford Ka and as a student it has been a really cost-effective choice. It has pretty good fuel economy and with careful gear change it does a decent mpg (for London) around 50 mpg. With rising fuel costs I think it is important to use the right fuel as illustrated by Shell’s latest ad campaign

I think high quality fuel definitely goes further…any thoughts on the best fuel to use?

  2. Using one brand of fuel vs. another might get you something in terms of better performance/economy or a cleaner engine but the gains will be minimal at best given government established minimum levels of quality.
